Classic Scones
Ingredient
375g self-raising flour
1tsp baking powder
90g unsalted butter
50g caster sugar
180ml milk
1 egg
Method
1) Start by pre-heating your oven to 200°C / 390°F / Gas mark 6. Tip the flour into a large bowl with the salt and baking powder and mix evenly.
2) Rub in the butter with your fingertips until it resembles fine bread crumbs, then mix in the caster sugar.
3) Add the milk and mix to form a loose dough. Place a lined baking tray in the oven so the base of the scones get evenly toasted. Sprinkle a handful of flour on the worksurface and work the dough roughly with your hands.
4) Roll out to about 5cm thick. Take your cutter and press straight down to cut the scones. Brush the tops with a beaten egg, then carefully arrange on the hot baking tray.
5) Bake for 10 mins until risen and golden on the top.
